Finally…
I’ve wanted a Mac for a couple years now. I always knew that with what I do on computers (photos, music, video, etc.) a mac would be a lot better for me. Friends and common sense have told me this for awhile. For some reason though, I never wanted to branch out and try something new. I just talked about it, but never did anything…kind of like standing half naked next to the pool and refusing to jump in.
The thing is, I know PCs pretty well so they’re safe…annoying at times, but safe. Even when I had to buy a new laptop a year or so ago, I played it safe and bought a Dell. Last week, I didn’t need to buy a laptop, but I bought a Mac.
I finally had an experience that helped push me in the right direction.
This story would be way too long if I wrote it all out, so here are a few bullets:
- I shot all my video in Ecuador in High Def Video (I thought: HD is the bomb)
- When I got back I discovered all the video editing programs we use don’t work with HDV. (I thought: what was I thinking!?! )
- The only program that worked was Final Cut Pro that we have on a few Macs. (I thought: crap, I don’t know Macs)
- I was forced to use the Macs and learn Final Cut Pro so I could put my story together. (I thought: I’m gonna buy a Mac)
It was an interesting week learning how to use a Mac by having to put a 7 min story together that was due in two days. But the experience was well worth it.
I bought a Macpro Notebook and in two days have already decided I will never go back to a PC. It is so user friendly and fun to mess around with.
Thinking about switching to a mac? Here is a blog post by a friend of mine describing why he likes his Mac so much, I’d write it all out, but he wrote it so much better.
P.S. This is my last week of work before a two-week vacation!!!
I bought a Mac last year and it has been an experience learning to use it. For some things like video I perfer it over my DEll. It is also lighter and it boots up and down easily. I also put Final Cut Pro on it, but have yet to really sit down and play with it. My only real conscrit of it is it has too few USB ports.
Finally drank the koolaide eh? I’ve been trying to tell you how how awesome they are for awhile now. I’m slowly convincing people here too. Our main editor is a Mac Pro, so I get to use Final Cut Pro everyday. It’s so much better than Avid. Later dude!
