My Faux Hawk

Today’s October 24th…which means it’s been two weeks since I’ve written here…which means one of two things:

1.) I have been real busy

or

2.) I haven’t done anything exciting

Truthfully, it’s a little of both. I have been real busy doing nothing exciting. So, in order to make sure I continue to update my blog I am choosing to write about nothing exciting. What’s new right?

A few things have happened recently:

1.) As some of you know my job entails anchoring a variety of news reports that air around the world and on the world wide web. It sounds cooler than it is because it airs mainly on the internal American Forces Network, so mainly military folk see it. It does, however, mean that every time I step in front of the camera I am open to criticism. And anybody can get my email so it means people can be very personal with their criticism…which isn’t uncommon. Case in point: On Monday I received an email from a guy in England who outranks me by quite a bit.

This is the email:
TSgt Hoover,
In your AF News report, I couldn’t help but notice the nice faux hawk you sported. Next time go easier on the hair gel.

Here is my supposed faux hawk:

Whatever…didn’t his mother ever teach him the old phrase, “If you don’t have anything nice to say…blah, blah?” I’ll get over it next week sometime.

2.) I am currently packing my apartment into a bunch of boxes. I am getting ready to head to the middle east for a while so I am going to save some money by moving all my stuff into a storage facility. I’ll have more on the trip when it happens. Right now all I will say is I’m excited for all the reasons I should be excited and bummed for the one reason I should be bummed.

3.) I saw the movie, Gone Baby Gone. I personally think it’s the best movie of the year. I’ve heard mixed opinions, but the majority of folks say it’s great…it is. You should see it.

That is my update for now. I am also busy writing. I think I’m actually getting somewhere. Maybe I’ll share another chapter sometime. For now…I’m too ashamed.

hey...the hair looked good....I thought. I don't know what the guy was thinking...
    • Faux hawk, eh? I'm not seeing it. What I am seeing is that the AF appears to have finally migrated to those God-awful uniforms. THAT is what is truly horrible.

I'll be praying for you and your upcoming deployment. Keep us all filled in on how it goes and may God's protection and peace be upon you.

The fauxhawk hairstyle is an approximation of a mohawk made without buzzing or shaving the sides of the head, allowing an imitation of the extreme look of a true mohawk without having to commit to it by shaving the head. The fauxhawk was introduced into pop culture by international soccer superstar David Beckham. Fashioning himself after Hedi Slimane, he was largely responsible for the style's becoming recognizable.

The fauxhawk is typically worn with a small but noticeable spike in the middle, though usually considerably shorter than many traditional Mohawks. Because a fauxhawk does not involve shaving the head, most, if not all, of the hair will be gelled upward, allowing for a much larger, but less dramatic, mohawk.

      HOW OLD IS THIS GUY!!!!????
